October 16, 2010, ERIE, PA - The Erie injury law firm of Purchase & George, P.C. has agreed to be the Pennsylvania sponsor of Teens Against Distracted Driving ("TADD"). TADD was founded by Seattle lawyer Jason Epstein to educate teens about the dangers of texting and driving as part of achieving the ultimate goal of eliminating the problem altogether.

The TADD website offers information about distracted driving and an opportunity for teens to pledge to stop texting and cell phone use while driving. Teens who take the pledge receive a free wrist bracelet. The program began as a local effort but has progressed to the national stage.

Purchase & George are among 12 other national sponsors who have committed to act as their region's representatives for TADD. "We will do our share in the northwest Pennsylvania area to promote the mission of TADD" said Tim George.

Erie Lawyer Asked to Serve Second Consecutive Term

August 25, 2011, ERIE, PA -- Eric J. Purchase has been asked by the Erie County Bar Association to chair the organization's Civil Litigation Section for a second consecutive year. The section is responsible for providing education, programs and services to Erie County lawyers who represent clients in civil cases in the Court of Common Pleas of Erie County and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

This is the third time Mr. Purchase has been named by his peers to act as Chairman of the Erie County Bar Association's Civil Litigation Section. Mr. Purchase also serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, as a delegate in the Pennsylvania Bar Association's House of Delegates and as the Zone 7 Representative to the PBA's political action committee.

Erie Lawyer to Give Supreme Court Approved CLE Presentation

August 23, 2011, ERIE, PA -- Erie lawyer Eric J. Purchase will lead a panel discussion of Pennsylvania lawyers addressing Pennsylvania's new Joint and Several Liability reform legislation. The panel of Erie attorneys will address S. B. 1131, Act 30, Effective June 28, 2011, the Pennsylvania legislation that dramatically altered the law of accident victim compensation in Pennsylvania. Specfic topics the panel will address include:

     * The implications of the new Act for Pennsylvania attorneys handling motor vehicle, medical malpractice, products liability and other personal injury cases;

     * How the new Act compares to Act 57, a 2002 statute that struck down joint and several liability but which was declared unconstitutional by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court;

     * The circumstances in which joint and several liability is still applicable in Pennsylvania;

     * The potential for constitutional flaws in the current statute; and

     * Other arguments that may be used to avoid application of the Act to a client's Pennsylvania injury case.

The panel of Pennsylvania injury lawyers also includes Erie attorneys Tim Riley and Craig Murphey.

The event, approved for 1.5 Continuing Legal Education credits by Pennsylvania's Supreme Court, is scheduled for August 30, 2011 beginning at 11:45 a.m. at the Bayfront Convention Center. Cost of admission is $48 for Erie County Bar Association members; $72 for non-members; and $34 for judges.

For over a year, Purchase & George has been using Facebook and Twitter to provide helpful tips and information to our clients and friends. You may be asking “What is Google+?”. In a nutshell, it is Google’s answer to facebook. You make a profile, find your friends, and post what is going on in your life with pictures and videos. There are a few minor differences, but for all intents and purposes, it is Google’s version of facebook.

Right now, Google is trying it out with a limited number of users and the only way to get on is if you are invited by someone who is already a member of Google+, and even then, there is no guarantee that they will have room for you yet.

New Parking Lot

WE’RE GETTING A NEW PARKING LOT!

Right now the parking lot in the front of our building is all torn up and blocked off. While this is a terrible inconvenience for everyone, we think you will appreciate the new parking lot that we will have when it is complete. Unfortunately, due to the heavy rains that we have had lately, it looks like it will be a few days before we have the new one down.

For the next few days, to get into the office you can park in the back parking lot and come in through the back door. When you come in, go downstairs, through the conference room and out to the reception area. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The annual charity event benefits the New Blossoms New Life Foundation which offers support to families in need who seek fertility treatment.

New Blossoms has its roots in the tragic death of Maggie Kovski, daughter of Atty. Chris and Renea Kovski. Maggies was conceived with the help of fertility treatment and, after her death, her parents founded New Blossoms in her memory to support families who need fertility treatment.

The New Blossoms cause is worth supporting. The treatments are not covered by most insurance plans and there are families who could not afford them without help but who, with a little help from the community, can and will make lasting contributions to the greater Erie community.

New Blossoms has no fixed overhead and pays no salaries. 100% of funds raised goes to the mission of the organization. Moreover, all recipients are required to contribute to their treatment costs commensurate with
their financial ability and to give back to the organization via volunteer activity. The strongest and most committed volunteers NBNL has are former recipients.
