Firm Overview: The Story of Purchase & George
The two founding partners of Purchase & George, P.C., Eric Purchase and Tim George, have been Erie lawyers since 1991 and 1992. They have taken different paths in life and in the law, but share the same pursuit of justice for people who are harmed by the carelessness of others.
In 1991, after law school, Eric Purchase began as an associate at
MacDonald Illig Jones & Britton, LLP , one of the region's largest and most well-regarded law firms. His clients included some of the region's largest insurance companies and employers. He represented hundreds, if not thousands, of people insured by
Erie Insurance ,
State Farm Insurance ,
Travelers Insurance ,
Nationwide Insurance and others. He made partner at the firm and chaired one of its practice groups.
Over the years Eric and Tim had been colleagues and occasional adversaries. A mutual respect grew from their experience and when Eric opened his own practice in 2006, it seemed natural to open his practice in the professional building that Tim had rennovated. It wasn't long before they began working on cases together and learning that they complemented one another perfectly. Eric's practice grew quickly and other lawyers hired him to try their Pennsylvania personal injury and accident cases. His speaking engagements have ranged from Continuing Legal Education Seminars for other lawyers to seminars for insurance adjusters on topics specific to personal injury law, insurance and trial tactics.
By contrast, Tim George began his career with a small law firm in 1992 as an associate for James P. Lay, III, P.C. Mr. Lay focused his practice exclusively on accident cases and was a highly regarded advocate for injured people throughout his 50 year career. Tim later opened his own practice in 1996 representing people injured in car & truck accidents. Since then he has also served as Assistant District Attorney and Army lawyer. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, he joined the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and completed training at the Judge Advocate General's School & Legal Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. In January 2009, Tim was called to active duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and served for 11 months as trial counsel for the 28th Combat Aviation Brigade. The primary mission of the 28th CAB was to provide helicopter support to the security forces protecting southern Iraq.
Tim and Eric had worked together on numerous cases over the years. Since 2006 (when they began working quite literally down the hallway from one another) the two have valued the synergy created when they take on the challenges presented by big Pennsylvania insurance companies in personal injury and accident cases. The successes that they achieved for Erie accident victims when they worked together made a formal partnership seem only natural when Tim returned from Iraq. Thus, Purchase & George was formed early in 2010.
